With increased industrialization comes the responsibility to sustainably handle and discard of waste. Today, compliance to various standards of operation requires in-house waste management plans in order to achieve certification. At minimum, an effective waste management plan would include the following:

• Waste stream identification

• Standards and performance measures

• Re-use, recycling, treatment and disposal of waste

• Monitoring

• Compliance procedures
